Hi Gang, I had the opportunity to go out a couple of weeks ago and I tried finding the Veil Nebula. Of course I don't have a filter that would help me. I have been lucky enough to view this through Rodger's 20" and an Ultra High Contrast filter(what a sight) so I knew what it should look like and where to look. To my surprise, I was able to see the brightest parts of it in the 8". I didn't know this was possible with a medium aperture scope without a filter. Have any of you experienced this? Maybe it's a common object for some of you. A new one for me(without a filter). The night was really good and I still have to post a report about this. The report will come soon as things slowly get back to normal. I have been watching Astromart for a UHC filter but they just don't show up. That must be a good advertisement for the UHC. I guess if you have one you WON'T be selling it. Hope to see you at the next meeting.
